- AGA is cheaper than ECS, yes. But still _much_ more expensive than
- S-VGA chips due to the volume in production of them.
- They don't have to go for "the best of the best". A pretty standard
- S-VGA with 2MB of VRAM _does_ _more_ than AGA and _cost_ _less_ .
- (Where have you heard *that* before. :)
-
- And who has said that AT should go for the cheapest S-VGA chipset that
- is available? I haven't.
-
- Regarding bandwidth: Yes.. High frequency is probably wanted. But there
- is no need to get the worst (best) of those chips. A normal chip with
- say 90-100MHz bandwidth is probably more than any normal user will
- need. I don't get what you are after? Just because you won't be able
- to bang the h/w in the way you are used to you don't have to demand
- the most expensive chips..
-
- There will probably not be nescessary to manufacture chips with Amiga
- specific stuff integrated. Why do that? Demos can look good anyhow.
- The Amiga will still be an Amiga. It's the users atitude and the OS
- that makes it an Amiga.
- More important is to get nice scanrates and pretty OK resolutions.
- Most people don't use their Amiga to watch demos all day long, they
- acctually tries to work with it one way or another. Such as
- wordprocessing, programming, DTV and similar things. If the only
- thing you are after is to watch demos, stick with the A1200.
-
- I won't argue with you about Hombre (AAA) because even if it is
- "outdated" it still has impressive performance. But it also is very
- expensive compared to "of the shelf" S-VGA chips. (S-VGA is not a
- bad thing. They perform good at a low cost.)
